Visit this site for an Exploratorium activity on electrostatics using everyday materials.  By working with a Styrofoam plate and an aluminum pie pan, students can build an electrophorus, to transfer charge by rubbing and also charge by induction. Users will also find an explanation of what happens and directions to store up an even larger charge in a device called a Leyden jar, made from a plastic film can. This activity is part of Exploratorium's Science Snacks series.
